So, where are people applying and which program in which department?
Ph.D. or MS? We need to avoid all possible inter-NSITian competition
guys....

Here's my current list:

Stanford - MS - CS
CMU - Ph.D. - CS
UMich - MS - CS

Hey guys

This is a very good initiative on your part to set up this group. One
request that i have is that it would help a lot if everyone jus sent
an introductory mail giving GRE scroes and field of intrest before
stating univs that u wish to apply to.

Well my GRE score was 1450 (800 in quant + 650 in verbal) with a 4.5 in AWE.

will be looking forward to ur replies

sorry forgot to include my field of intrest in the previous mail.... I
wish to apply to a majority of univs for MS in ECE and may apply to a
couple for MS in Biomedical Engg.

GRE - 780(Q) 800(V) 6.0(AWA)
List so far: all in CS

Stanford - MS
CMU - PhD
UMD - PhD

Cornell - MS / PhD
Umich - Ms / PhD
Columbia - MS/PhD
USC - PhD
OSU - MS
UTAustin - MS

The latter set is not finalized - there would be changes, both in univ
and course applied for. My set mostly will clash with Madhav, as both
of us have simliar profiles and interests - we have both some
experience in NLP and are applying to univs with strong AI or NLP
groups.

EDULIX - I had posted some queries a long time ago, and got some
useful info. The people there are mostly not IIT, and from the
South(Anna univ etc). But there are tons of forum archives that you
can search through for info, which might be useful for parts of the
app process like which courier to use, how to handle the visa etc.
Also, I managed to find some research-scholars in my field, and they
were useful in giving me an idea of which universities have strong NLP
research groups.
But the forum takes some time to load - I think there is some problem
accessing it over MTNL connections. And you will require some time to
search and find what you want - lots of stuff to sift through first.
Overall, I think Edulix is a good resource.

What do you know about the i20fever group? Are they active in Delhi?

Hey chaps,

Here's my list:

Anant Rai
GRE - 750 (V) 800 (Q) 5.0 (AWA)

List of universities:

1. University of Texas, Austin - ECE with research focus on Bioengineering
2. Case Western Reserve University - Biomed
3. John Hopkins University, Whiting - Biomed
4. Texas A&M University, College Station - ECE with research focus on Bioengineering

That's pretty much it as of now. The rest aren't likely to be ambitious (probably not in the top 20). I'm also considering applying to MacGill University and/or University of Toronto, since I'm considering settlement possibilities in Canada. Somehow, nobody (from India at least) seems to apply to these colleges (though they're the two best in Canada, and both ranked in the top 30 worldwide). Does anyone know why?

Cheers.

Oh yeah, and all of them are for MS. Not considering a PhD as of now.
College acads - 81% or whereabouts (after dropping 3 optional subjects); Likely to take a major tumble with 6th semester results.

I have the same question in mind. Can the college give us a letter explaining the dropping criteria and relevant stuff?

Well I am interested in Networking/Distributed Systems and will most prob be applying to CS depts of following:

CMU
Stan
Cornell

I have to decide my 'safe' list. I havent done anything till now, so am just started planning.

I had contacted a senior in this regard on whether to drop subjects or
not....
he had told me that the transcripts wont have a cumulative score and in
the covering letter no where they'd be mentioning the dropping system
hence its better to give the % without dropping
although he had suggested that all we should write our ranks in the
forms as per who's applying to that particular college from our branch
and get the ranks incorporated in the LORs aswell
it helps in securing admission to many unviersities if u r DR 1/ DR 2
....
