You can but its hard to get funding right at the start. You can
Teaching Assistants after you have spent a couple of quarters here, or
even earlier is you have the right prior experience. Some students, if
lucky, manage to get Research Assistant-ships also.

You shouldn't count on it, but if you do well and have letters of
recommendation from faculty at stanford, then it makes your
application stronger. The Admissions Committee does make a distinction
between the two and by no means is there guaranteed acceptance.

Admission depends on the strength of your application and the
Admissions Committee's decision. Sorry I cannot comment on this.
