Hey EBoarders ;-)

We need your feedback on an item regarding the End of Year dinner.  Al-Amin got a email/text today asking if the End of Year dinner is for members only.  Currently there are two views:

1) Respond saying "yes," but anyone paying next year's dues now are welcome to attend this year's dinner.

2) Respond saying "no," all are welcomed.

Additional views are welcomed.  In general, we would like to get the Board's feedback on how we should respond.

Thanks,
Andre

My vote is for option #1, members only.

We may want to also add something that says, "we understand that everyone's financial situation is different, and if for whatever reason paying the dues is a financial hardship, please contact XXX directly to discuss possible options"

Marie

Saying "all are welcomed" is a bit over the top in my opinion. I just don't see what we gain by turning away potential paid active local members on such an event. I would love to see all our paid members show up, but we all know that won't be the case. Therefore we won't be going over budget. If a few new people go out of their way to try to attend an event like this, I see it as an opportunity to bring them in to our chapter and retain them. So I would term it as an exception although it is for paid members so as to not encourage too much of this activity. People tend to forget that the first part of our mission statement is "To increase the number..." so when I see an opportunity for quality individuals that can help lead our chapter, I say let's take it. What do we lose? A meal that some absent paid members were going to consume.

Please state your thoughts, so I can respond in a timely manner and keep it moving.

My 3 cents,
Al-Amin

Hey guys! Looks like you all had a great year for nsbe Boston!

If you don't mind here is my thought on the end of year dinner. Previously it was to celebrate the chapter and recognize our members. So it wasn't meant to exclude non-members.

If the chapter plans to spend say $15 per person perhaps you can say members are free and all others should plan to donate $15.

I agree with Al that you do want to increase your numbers and welcome others to see what you have accomplished this year. Definitely push to have people renew their membership and become members at this time too.

Have graduating seniors been invited? Just wondering...

See you guys next week.

Option 1.

At the beginning of next year you can have a welcome dinner (open to everyone) - order real food for the first meeting and kick of the year right!

I think we welcome existing members and all those new members wishing to join can sign up at the dinner.  Just bring the cc card reader to avoid confusion. We have budget (within reason) and every event we do from now on should be part membership drive.

I think Dre left my normal email off. Smh

Given the feedback received, I think we should proceed by incorporating Michelle's (aka Wise Chapter Elder ) suggestion with viewpoint #1.  That is:

- continue to promote the event as a member's event
- non-members paying 2013-2014 dues are covered (payments will be accepted at the event)
- all others are welcome to attend, but will essentially cover themselves by paying $20

On Monday and Wednesday, I'll email the RSVP'd non-members on the last 2 bullets.

Al-Amin: please communicate this to the ppl that contacted you.

Thanks,
Andre

25 RSVP's, 27 if you include the yet to RSVP Boss Lady & Coach, ehem ...

Keep in mind that number is not all current members. I'm going to email the RSVP'd non-members tonight to ensure they're aware of the payment options to attend.
