I have sent emails to sup...@nsbasic.com and haven't received any
responses. I purchased the upgrade for the latest version of NSBasic
in the hopes that I would be able to use NS Basic for developing an
applicaiton on an AMD Alchemy [read MIPS] based WINCE development
board. One of the other problems that I have is that the current
environment only supports a serial link. I want to be able to create
the file on the desktop and drop it on to a PC Card. Two questions:

1) Does NS Basic support the MIPS based AMD Alchemy?

2) Is it possible to compile on the desktop, drop onto a PC Card and
run from the WINCE based unit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you referring to an embedded Windows CE PC like a desktop PC motherboard?
These are not the same as what NS Basic supports.
Here is a list of all the supported systems.
These are handheld and Pocket PC versions of Windows CE devices.

Hope this helps

THis unit is a device as shown here...
It is about 2x3 inches in size. The unit ships with WINCE 4.2
installed. They ship it with a C++ 4.0 environment but I prefer
BASIC myself.

Here is what I have attempted so far.
1) Install it on my desktop. [The unit won't sync up to my desktop
so a standard install is out of the question. :( ]
2) Grab the files from the ActiveSync directory and copy them to the
PC Card.
3) Insert PC Card into development board and double click on files.
4) INstall script appears to execute and files are deleted from PC
Card.
5) Go to Start Menu and attempt to run NSBasic.
6) Device comes back stating that it 'Cannot find 'basic' or one of
its components. Make sure the path and filename are correct and
that all the required libraries are available.'
The path and file name are correct and the dll are in the Windows
directory.

Thoughts?

These units are similar to PC motherboards and not the same as a PDA which NS Basic is designed for.
These boards you are referring to are PC -104 embedded motherboards. These do not run the Pocket PC or equivalent  mobile versions of Windows CE but the full blown Windows CE.
In these cases you need Visual Studio from MS.

    In addition:

The PC-104 boards you use must be ARM based since Windows CE supported through Visual Studio is for CE V40+ to Wm 5.0.
    No MIPS processor support anymore.

    One last comment.
If you can find a suitable PC-104 board running an X86 compatible processor then you should be able to run regular Windows XP on the system. Then NS Basic for Desktop can be used.

We haven't tested this device. The lack of ActiveSync will certainly
    make things more complex!

We do support MIPS processors on Windows CE 3.0 devices. We have not yet
encountered a 4.2 device running MIPS, so we the installers and
compilers do not have this option. Do you want to do this as a one off
project, or are you planning a large scale deployment?

(I'm sorry we haven't gotten the messages you sent directly. We respond
to all messages we receive, but something the spam filters capture good

Well shoot. I was hoping to use NS Basic. I am not a C++
programmer and thought that this would support this board. Any
thoughts or ideas of how I can still use NSB? This was going to be
    a large scale deployment.

Have a look at this document. We do special builds for cases like this...

    George,

The development environment for this device is embedded Visual C++ 4.0 and quite honestly I hate C++ any more.  However, I have been able to obtain a copy of Visual Studio .NET to attempt to write code for this device but the hoops to jump through are a little irritating.  Do you think that you guys can support this device?

    all the best...

This is the first request we've had for this, so it doesn't look like
the market is a big one. However, you could sign up for the Embedded
Device Support Program and get it done that way:
