Web Sudoku Deluxe allows the user to use either numbers or letters even in the 99 grid. I would assume that the larger grids, would allow both simultaneously, but that is speculation on my part. I was not able in the limited time given to see if that is the case.
To select a cell for value entry, you either tab to the cell or just click on the desired cell with your left mouse button. Values are entered by typing in the number or letter. If you prefer to just use your mouse buttons for data entry, you are out of luck.
The second and additional candidates are entered in a different color and automatically resize to a smaller point size. As you enter more and more candidates, the string of candidates in a single line, become smaller and smaller to the point of being too hard for me to see them. The string of candidates are not sorted in any way.
I was able to enter a 0 and letters into any cell in the 99 grid I was testing. Good programmers will filter out and prevent invalid entries. This is a basic lesson taught in programming 101 classes I have taken.

Fill in all the missing numbers on the wooden sudoku board. Look carefully at the numbers already given at the start of the game. Using the knowledge that the numbers 1 through 9 may only occur once in every row, column, and block of 9 cells, you should be able to figure out where all the other numbers ought to go by a process of elimination. This will take quite a bit of patience though. Look carefully and try to solve all these fun sudoku puzzles
Have owned this for over 5 years and it's never lost its appeal. We keep it on the cocktail table in our family room, and it gets continual use. It is a great conversation starter, too, when guests are around. Comes with a book of sudoku puzzles, but we also set up the puzzles from newspapers or other sources.
Company quickly replaced the bag of tiles when we found one missing! After two years, my husband has just about worn out the tiles playing this game for hours on end! Well made, good for the brain-love it!
