Hi folks,

If you're a teacher, please consider applying. If you know of a teacher who might be interested, please forward this along. Thanks so much!

As an educator engaged in outdoor learning, I wanted to reach out to let you know about a new opportunity for Primary to Grade 3 teachers from across Nova Scotia called the Move to Learn Initiative. This initiative is run by Hike Nova Scotia, with support from the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

Move to Learn Outdoors is an intensive professional development program focused on deepening the outdoor learning practices of a select cohort of P-3 teachers from across Nova Scotia.

The first two seminars will provide participants with immersive professional learning in Mi’kmaw ways of knowing and connecting to the earth, environmental education practices, physically active learning methods, and methodologies for fostering inclusion and access in outdoor education.

The second two seminars will be facilitated co-design workshops in which participating teachers will have the opportunity to work with other Move to Learn Outdoor Teachers to create simple and feasible outdoor learning activities that are linked to Primary to Grade 3 science curriculum outcomes. These activities will be made available to teachers across Nova Scotia via an online resource.

The program will run over a course of 4 weekend seminars, beginning in early February 2025 and ending in June 2025. There are 18 spots available in the program.

We seek representatives from all Regional Centres for Education, the CSAP, and Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey. Selected participants will receive an honorarium for their participation. Mileage, accommodation and meal costs will be covered as well.

If you are interested in applying, please read the attached Invitation to Apply for more details and fill in the online application form that is linked therein. Please note that applications are due by January 3, 2025.

Please share this invitation with other teachers who might be interested in applying for this opportunity as well.

Questions about the program can be directed to Britt Vegsund, Move to Learn Outdoors Project Lead at brittv...@hikenovascotia.ca.

Thanks for considering this.

~Janet
