Hi everyone, I wanted to know if there is a theorical and practical limitation to the number of eNBs and UEs supported in NS3 3.17 (Lena module).

Which is the max number of eNBs installable and which is the max number of UEs attachable?

I ask this both from a theorical point of view and from a practical point of view.

Many thanks for the support.

Bye

Any idea? Some test executed? Max number of Ues for eNB?

Thanks once again

Hi Daniele,

I haven't heard of any limit in the number of UEs.
There used to be a limit in the eNBs (16) but based on the last slide of the presentation here (http://www.nsnam.org/tutorials/consortium13/lte-tutorial.pdf) there is no such limit.
However, your scenario will be very slow with large number of nodes and especially with the number of scheduled events (packets per sec). So there seems to be a practical limitation there. I am doing some simulations with 50-60 UEs and it lasts couple of hours (I have a lot of traffic).

There are some theoretical limits given by both the RNTI and the cell id being a uint16_t; i.e., for sure you can't have more than 2^16 eNBs, and 2^16 UEs per eNB.

Still execution time and memory consumption will limit you in practice to much lower numbers, as mentioned by Konstantinos.
We did some simulations with 40 eNBs and 10 UEs per eNB (total 400 UEs), using the EPC model with a traffic of 1 packet/ms/UE/direction. The peak memory consumption was about 1GB and the execution time was about 1200s per second of simulation time.

Hello guys!

I am facing the same problem of figuring out which is the maximum number of UEs that a single eNB can hold (i have a scenario up to 1000 UEs). I am experiencing problems related to the SRSperiodicity. As far as i understood reading tutorials like http://howltestuffworks.blogspot.it/2014/07/sounding-reference-signal-procedure.html and useful post like this  https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/ns-3-users/srsPeriodicity/ns-3-users/afDcL8knL_Q/k4Zo4hq-534J,  the SRSPeriodicity (whose max value is 320) is a reference signal that is transmitted in uplink that in NS3 restricts the maximum number of UE that can be attached to a single eNB; moreover on "high level" there is no way to disable it. Did i understood right?

At this point i would like to ask: how to simulate scenarios with more than 320 UEs?

Thanks very much for cooperation!

Hi David,

Have you find solution for this issue? How could you connect 1000 UEs to a single Enodeb.

Best Regards,
Samir

Hi David
I am facing the same problem you mentioned it.
I want to ask you if you reach to a solution.
Many thanks in advanced.
