Hi,
I am interested in X2 handover implementation in NS3. I found
that the ns-3-dev distribution does not have any handover related
files and the lena distribution is very much away from base NS3 and
does not support handover yet. Hence, I have started with ns-3.10-
mobility , and added files by Alberto Andreini enbGw-net-device.cc*,
handover-measurements.cc and modified the ideal-control-message.cc to
include handover messages. As I am new to NS3, in order to gain
confidence and not lose heart in using NS3, this is the workaround I
would like to take..
My questions are:
i) Consider the basic X2 handover scenario of One Server, one enbGw*,
two enB, 3UEs (assume they having the same S-GW and MME). Learning
from the femtocells-scenario.cc example, I can see that UE2 gets the
message Start Handover, following accumulation of some enb-records.
What I would like to understand is how to call the handover related
ideal-control-messages. [ Yes I would later enhance the code to
include much of the S-GW and MME functionality, as I fear that Lena
code may become non public source].
ii) How to visualize the Handover ...pyViz or NetAnim...? or even the
NS3 version of NAM ...

Hi

We have released an X2-AP and NAS(ESM/EMM) implementation in mid-October. I posted this on the ns-3-developers list, see: http://mailman.isi.edu/pipermail/ns-developers/2011-October/009515.html
We are working now on an implementation of an X2- based HO without SGW relocation, including the GTP tunnel switching at the SGW. A further step would be the S1-AP implementation (it starts in February or March) between the eNB and the MME. But our project is not yet merged with the LENA project, therefore in the DHPE project is no LTE radio interface implementation available.

Hi,
do you know if there is a possibility to do the handover in LTE and how. I would like to have a user that handovers from a femtocell to a macrocell. Do you think that's possible?

Thanks!

Hi Ayasha, Saulo,

the new version of LENA supports the execution of a X2-based handover, see this announcement:
