Dear All,

If you are experienced in network simulation using NS3 you might find the following positions interesting:

1. Postdoc Position in Blockchain-based Satellite Communications at University College Dublin

If you are an Optical/Wireless Networks researcher with experience in Blockchain and are interested in joining Ireland's biggest space research project (€7.9 million funded under the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund), we are hiring a new Postdoctoral Researcher for the National Space Subsystems & Payload Initiative (NSSPI).

This project aims to develop a decentralized, blockchain-based autonomous communication infrastructure sharing system based on the Linux Foundation’s open-source Hyperledger Blockchain framework. The system enables satellite operators to share their onboard communication capacity with other operators seeking to route their data through these satellites.

The successful candidate will report to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Nima Afraz.

  • Salary Range: €43,908 - €50,302 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience.
  • Closing Date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on the 2nd of October 2024

2. Postdoc Position in Data-Driven xApps Conflict Management in Open-RAN at University College Dublin

We are hiring a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the UCD School of Computer Science for a 24-month position. The project, funded by the SFI Research Centre CONNECT, aims to develop innovative strategies for managing conflicts between multiple xApps in Open Radio Access Networks (Open-RAN).

Open-RAN represents a major shift from single-vendor to multi-vendor deployments, allowing for increased competition and integration of AI/ML functionalities. However, it introduces challenges, such as conflicting network parameter changes by independently operating xApps. This project will focus on creating a comprehensive framework using game theory and AI/ML-based prediction models to proactively detect and resolve both direct and indirect conflicts between xApps, enhancing network performance and reliability.

Key outcomes include a proactive conflict detection and management system for multi-vendor xApps, contributions to open-source software, and alignment with standardization efforts within the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) and the O-RAN Alliance. Industry collaborations with Intel, VMWare/Broadcom, and others will help translate these innovations into practical solutions for next-generation wireless networks.

  • Salary Range (Postdoc Level 1): €44,347 - €50,805 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience.
  • Closing Date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on the 8th of October 2024
