The scenario you try to simulate shows the possibility of connecting a UE with a remote host (outside the LTE network) through the EPC module.

Read the manula of LENA before going to the source code.
It is all described there. (e.g. http://lena.cttc.es/manual/lte-user.html#evolved-packet-core-epc)

Yes, UE to UE communications are supported as well. It is mentioned in the design docs:
http://lena.cttc.es/manual/lte-design.html#epc-model

Dear All,

I have a question about routing protocols. I would like to run a routing protocol over a certain topology (i.e tree topology). The first step i made is that i define each node with an ipv4 and then i run the routing protocol, my question is that, is it accepted to make a static routing (by assigning the IPs to the nodes manually) and then run a routing protocol like OLSR??
Also, How could i include the mac layer at my algorithm?

Regards,
Ahmed Elawamry

may I suggest you to post your request as a new topic? I don't see how it relates to the present topic which is titled "why use remote host in lena-simple-epc"

Hi Nicola,

Do you mean that UEs could communicate without passing by the eNB ?

No, what you describe is normally called device to device communication, and is not supported by the ns-3 LTE module.
I meant just that a UE can communicate with another UE by passing through the eNB, the SGW and the PGW.
