station association criteria

I want to simulate a scenario which contains multiple APs and their associated STAs in a wifi environment. Currently, I fix the STA associations via my code in the scratch folder i.e. which STA gets associated with which AP.

Is there a way by which the STAs can change their association dynamically during simulation? Meaning if the STA receives a low SINR while connecting to a particular AP, it changes its association to another AP from whom it experiences a higher SINR? Or say based on some other criteria?

Since there is a lot of research done on association related topics in the past, I was assuming that ns 3 might have some features built in, but couldn't figure out how to enable them. Is there any example code that I can take a look at to see how to allow changing association based on a particular criteria?

If this is not possible, what would be possible ways to modify the wifi source code to enable this? Is there any particular class that can be modified? Any examples/suggestions?

I have tweaked the wifi module in the past for a few experiments. However, for association, I'm getting the feeling that this might be tough. But I might be wrong. So I wanted to get some suggestions before getting started on modifying the src code since I wouldn't want to reinvent the wheel :)

Thanks for your help.
