I'm trying to replace the HWMP protocol with different routing protocols so that their performances can be compared in an IEEE 802.11s mesh network. In IEEE 802.11s wireless mesh networking ns 3 model, HWMP seems to be implemented at the MAC layer. Is there a way by which this can be replaced by a different routing protocol?

I've tried looking this up online but could not find a proper solution.

One of the solutions I saw was to design a grid topology in which individual nodes have WifiNetDevice s instead of mesh point devices. The WifiNetDevice s can be configured in adhoc mode and have WIFI_PHY_STANDARD_80211a. But I'm not entirely convinced. Is this an "IEEE 802.11s mesh network"?

When we speak of an 802.11s mesh network, does it have any specific configurations/specifications (in terms of MAC and PHY) apart from the HWMP routing protocol and Peer management protocol? What makes it different or similar to the network in the solution above.

Is there a better way of replacing HWMP with a different protocol?

Hi PN,

I'm implementing a mesh network in Ns-3 and would like to test different routing protocols instead of HWMP, as much like as you said.

Did you manage to find a solution to replace HWMP?

Many thanks.

Regards,

Daniel

No I wasn't able to figure it out. However, depending on what effect you wish to study, you could use other adhoc configurations in ns 3 to simulate that behavior.

Hi Peshal,

Many thanks for your answer. I'm trying to simulate a hybrid wireless mesh network using different layer 3 routing protocols, like AODV and OLSR. I will try to do all of this using adhoc nodes so.

Thanks again.

Regards,

Daniel
