To the best of my knowledge it's just academic papers and talkings in the standard bodies.

The actual protocols and systems are... well, be my guest in trying to reverse-engineer one of the mega-constellation satellites w/o having a swarm of lawyers at your door (not to mention the problem of having a satellite to reverse-engineer).
It would be fun and interesting tho.

Then why are publishing research papers with no use 😭😭.

I didn't say it's not useful. I said it's not used to the best of my knowledge.
Who knows if it's used in an actual constellation? I didn't rule it out, we just don't know.

In any case... science: you research on what's not yet there but it has benefits, and (maybe) sometimes in the future it will be used.
If you limit yourself to only things that are already used you'll not discover anything new.

If history teaches us something is that your "useless" research CAN be super useful in the future, even if you think it isn't particularly useful now.
Gauss is a great example of that. Didn't publish many things he discovered. People only discovered much later through his notebooks, letters, etc, and then attributed some discoveries/inventions to him.
