Hello everyone,

I am currently delving into the Multi-link Operation (MLO) as part of my master's research and am trying to simulate it using NS-3. My primary reference files are wifi-mlo-test.cc and wifi-eht-network.cc.

Upon generating pcap files using the SpectrumWifiPhyHelper, I've noticed that separate files seem to be created, almost as if one is produced for each radio. Furthermore, the MAC addresses appear to differ between these files. For instance, a node equipped with three radios exhibits three distinct MAC addresses.

My understanding was that, despite having multiple radio interfaces, shouldn't MLD present a single MAC address?

Any insights or clarifications on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

An MLD has one MAC address per link (used in 802.11 header) plus one MLD address that is advertised to the upper layer.

Bests,
Stefano
