Insert/remove routes in Ipv4 routing table from a ns3 Application

Is there a way to dynamically insert/remove routes to Ipv4 routing table from a ns3 Application? After digging around document and source code I can't find a convenient way to do it. 

The method that I came up with is to create a new Ipv4RoutingProtocol that provides API for Application to insert/remove routes. Is this the correct way to do it? Or am I missing something in the document?
