Hello ns-3 community,
We are exploring the idea of extending ns-3 to support distributed simulation of wireless networks, in particular Wi-Fi. I understand that ns-3 already supports MPI-based distributed simulation, but from what I’ve seen this is mainly effective for wired networks.
Could you please clarify:
Why wireless modules (like Wi-Fi) were not developed with distributed support?
Were there fundamental limitations or challenges (e.g., interference modeling, mobility, synchronization overhead) that made it impractical?
Are there any past attempts, research work, or design discussions around making wireless PHY/MAC models run in a distributed way?
We’d like to understand what the main roadblocks have been, so that we can evaluate whether pursuing this direction makes sense (and where approximations might be acceptable).
