Dear Amina,

There is no VANET routing protocol implemented in ns-3. But you will
find OLSR, AODV and DSR.

Best,
Ruben

Hi All
Is there any document or guide i can find to implement routing protocols ( position-based and topology based for VANET
or some example code we can follow and learn from ?

your cooperation and help is highly appreciated

best regards,
Sabri

Dear Sabri,

There are two position based routing protocol implemented in NS-3. They were presented during last WNS3 (below the slides). However they are not merged in the main ns-3 tree since they lack code reviewers.

  • Geographic routing implementation in NS3: (slides)
António Fonseca, André Camões and Teresa Vazão
  • A Position Based Routing Module for Simulations of VANETs in NS-3: (slides)
Konstantinos Katsaros, Mehrdad Dianati and Karsten Roscher

I am working on VanetMobiSim, I have used the trace file generated by it and used it on NS-2.35.  Now I am trying to modify AODV routing algorithm so that next node chosen is one the basis of relative velocity. Can you help in this regard. This is really important and urgent...I am little weak in coding. May be you can help with some code.

Hi all,

I am a little bit new in this topic? Can you suggest which (ns2 or ns3) will be better to simulate vanet? plz mention which version of ns2 or ns3.

Hi,

it depends on what VANET topic you're interested into. I'd say ns-3, the latest version (no reason whatsoever to use an old one).

Hi all
Can anyone tell me if I want to write a new VANET routing protocol from where I suppose to start? Should I write it from zero or there is a reference code I can modify on it?
Please help me I am new to the topic and I don't know what to do.
Thanks all

ns-3 does not have any routing protocols to use with VANET.
In fact, ns-3's DSRC protocol stack is not yet complete to support routing under VANET ( routing in v2v scenarios).
You may understand it if you read the following post:

Confusions in doing VANET simulations using DSRC/WAVE under ns-3

But, people are simulating routing protocols for VANET by using this incomplete DSRC stack or even without DSRC stack at all(using normal MANET like protocol stack).

So, you can implement VANET routing one of the following ways:
1) Controlled Flooding / Message forwarding based methods (because 1 hop broadcasting is the basic way to handle safety messaging under VANET)
2) any conventional routing method (optimized for VANET)

If you want to stick with strict VANET standards, then for developing a routing protocol for VANET, you have to first implement a DSRC stack with an appropriate routing layer and then develop a routing protocol to work along with that DSRC routing layer.

Alternatively, if you are going to simulate and study a VANET routing protocol only with a MANET like protocol stack, then you may claim that in future, your routing protocol can be adopted on VANET (if it is working good under your simulated 'VANET like' scenario).

Hello Konstantinos,

1) Where can we download the code of   "Position Based Routing Module for Simulations of VANETs in NS-3" ?
2) "Geographic routing implementation in NS3" is the alternate name for GPSR? If not, where can we download it?

It is really available?
