NS-3 LEO Simulation slowness

All,

I recently ported over ns-3-leo to work with ns-3.45 on this forked repo: NS-3.45 Forked

The problem that I am having is that running the "leo-link" example that I have created takes quite some time to run (over 30 minutes) and I am not sure if it's down to the code I wrote or because of hardware? The link to the leo-link example code is here.

The commands used to configure, build, and run the "leo-link" example is found at the bottom of this page.

Please let me know if there is something obvious that I am missing, this is my first effort into working with ns3!
