Hi All,

I am planning to my research in implementation of VOIP in an openflow
network. For simulation purpose , I have to use NS3 as NS3 supports
Openflow protocol. I was wondering if NS3 has a support for SIP or
not ??. If anyone can refer to any documentation on how to go about
setting up a VOIP network in NS3 , it would be really helpful.

Thanks,
Shreya

NS-3 doesn't have models for SIP/VOIP yet.

And about the OpenFlow part, you might want to be aware of ns-3-openflow's current limitation of not being able to interact with an external controller. If you'd like to work on getting this fixed, I'd be an interested party in reviewing/mentoring this.

Thanks,
Shreya

Hi,

NS-3 does not have any SIP implementation as yet, or RTP/RTCP implementation, you will need to do both...It is not difficult and patches are welcome...

Hi,

First out I am no expert on NS-3, just a comrade...but I have worked on IMS and NS-2
implementation of SIP, RTP/RTCP in my last company...

2. Good that you have code for SIP in C++...pl read how to Add a new module in NS-3

3. You can take the Code for RTP/RTCP from ortp (google for it), but it is in C, though very good...

4. As you are just starting on NS-3, please go through the tutorial and manual for NS-3. Also, try out all the examples in the NS-3 examples folder...then perhaps graduate to ns-3-dev and study and try out the various very good examples on LTE...Sounds pedantic but IMHO it is the only way forward...

5. You could ask your librarian to get hold of "SAE/EPC", "Evolved Packet Core" and of course both books of Sesia on UMTS Evolution to LTE ... (search in the Wiley Catalog). These are a recommended reading for anyone diving in to LTE and EPC (as you wish to...)

6. Read all posts by Dr. Nicola,  Konstantinos Katros ...they are real Gurus ...and they do give out gems every now and then, and therein you will find answers to most of your queries

7. I would also suggest that you could browse Konstantinos's website for "NS3-Pearls"...they are very educative...

With Regards,
madan

This is the ns-3 user group. Please use the ns2 mailing lists for the questions related to ns2.

Moreover, make sure to
1) use the group's search feature
2) read the thread contents, and
3) read enough of the ns-3 documentation to understand its scope and limitations.

Hello everyone,
I want to work on implementing SIP in an openflow network. Dear Shreya did you implement it in Ns3?
Is there anyone who knows any documentation on it so far?!
I will be really thankful if anyone can help.
