Hi Martina,

There are two clubs serving the state of VA: ours, the New River Valley Mushroom Club centered around Blacksburg, and the Mycological Association of Washington DC.  That might be closer to you if you want to get together with people and learn about mushroom ID.

Our parent group is the North American Mycological Association with whom we are both affiliated chapters.  namyco.org is the gateway to a wealth of information.

One should never depend on the internet alone for the identification of edible/poisonous mushrooms, but on Facebook there are dozens of groups where you can learn and connect with people if you don't have a convenient local club:
  • The Mushroom Identification Page
  • Virginia Mushroom Identification Forum
  • Maryland Mushrooms and Mycology
  • Central Virginia Mushroom Hunters
  • New River Valley Mushroom Club
  • West Virginia Mushroom Club
  • The Mushroom Identification Group
  • Wildmushroomhunting.org
  • Foragers Unite!
  • Mushroom Hunting & Identification
  • Charlottesville Mycological Society
  • North Carolina Mushroom Group
I hope this information helps you!
