I second Don's opinion on the rarity of summer golden eagles in these
parts. I have never seen one between April and October in the southern
Appalachians.

A great find indeed, the VA "Goldbook" the Golden Eagle
is considered a rare summer visitor in the Mountains and Valleys section of
the state. Post - 1980 summer records for the counties
of Allegheny,Grayson, Page, Washington, and several reports from
Highland. There are no reports of any summer Golden Eagle sightings in our
area, and no conclusive evidence that breeding has occurred in the state. I
believe that someone is conducting studies in Highland county looking
for summer Eagles?
