Illegal CD/DVD Sales

DOHA: Counterfeit Compact Discs (CDs) and Digital Video Discs (DVDs),
particularly of old Hollywood and Hindi blockbusters, are being sold
in the local market openly.
The illegal business is thriving and is brisk on weekends, especially
late on Thursday and Friday evenings.
Most of the illegal vendors carrying out the shady business are low-
income Nepalese workers who do it on a ‘free-lancing basis’ for an
extra buck.
They sell the CDs and DVDs for as cheap as between QR3 and QR5,
whereas genuine CDs and DVDs can cost many times over.
It is easy to make these CDs and DVDs even at home using genuine ones.
Earlier, the shady operatives used to vend these items openly along
roadside.
But, now they don’t sit at a fixed place and keep moving about in
crowded areas, holding a bunch of DVDs and CDs in their hands.
On Thursday and, especially Friday evenings, one can see a number of
Nepalese carrying CDs and DVDs in bags and sometimes in their hands as
well roaming around on Al Asmakh Street and near Souq Najada.
Enquiries reveal that after the intellectual property office has begun
conducting frequent raids on outlets selling counterfeit CDs and DVDs,
the illegal vendors have become cautious.
However, despite they having become low-profile, their potential
customers, a vast majority of whom are also low-income foreign
workers, can identify them easily, say sources
Should NRNA work in this direction to educate our Nepalese workers
that such activity of selling copied CD/DVD is illegal and can land
the person in jail/deportation ?

It’s my personnel opinion to your comment below.
It’s very much appreciated that you have at least highlighted the point to publish the activities related to NRN and hope every one agree with your opinion. I personally feel pound of like you NRN member showing interest in NRN activities where many of us even cannot think of it cause of busy routine with our job. Hope concern people will hear your voice.
In the mean time I feel quite uneasy with your comment for supplementary publish on NRN mailing. It smells like it discourages the people who like to expose their creativity and also it doesn’t give the justice to those members who actually love those distribute. It’s an additional glory for like you well-read member to respect others feeling and interest as well. I feel so.
Concerning your comment regarding the COPY, I feel like to copy is also one the best means of learning and sharing of knowledge as far as its legal to do. I like to highlight the very common example here, we have our parents who copied the culture of our grand parents, we have copied same from our parents and we wish our children could copy us to preserve our identity as Nepali on the globe. It’s also true that it needs some reform in order to cope with the moment in time.
