mrugesh, anurag, pradeepto and I met a representative of a leading
arts and science college to discuss holding a course/courses on foss.
The college was keen on doing this, but was worried about the
marketability of the course. It was decided to have a 40 hour
certificate course as a pilot to commence sometime in July. NRC-FOSS
would provide the syllabus, course materials and faculty, or would
train the college faculty if necessary. The draft course syllabus
would be furnished within a week. As this is an arts-science college,
the course would be marketed more as a soft skill - 'opening minds
with open source'.

The college was concerned that it shouldnt lose by conducting the
course as they would have to spend around 60,000 for the same. This
amount would be defrayed by collecting fees from the students, but
there could be a shortfall if the course was a failure. Since this is
the first attempt to do something like this, NRC-FOSS would undertake
to make up the deficity if there is a shortfall in fees collection.
NRC-FOSS would also contribute to publicity and marketing of the course.

With regard to the NRC-FOSS node, volunteers are in place, and a few
more are eager to help out, but a place with a chair and table is yet
to be found. It was agreed to explore the possibility of getting some
space in Mumbai University and Anurag agreed to check this out. NRC-
FOSS would also work on this.

It was also decided to select one good engineering college and have a
big workshop/seminar to launch activities.

Is it worthwhile to explore the feasibility of AICTE accredition for the
courses ? Not now, but for the near future...
