Register Vacant Property: It’s The Law

Three convenient ways to register

ATLANTA - In an effort to keep Atlanta beautiful, Atlanta’s Code Enforcement Section is urging vacant property owners to register those properties with the City.

Under Article VI of the Housing Code, The City of Atlanta’s Code Enforcement Section of the Atlanta Police Department requires that all vacant properties be registered. Owners have 60 days from the date in which the property becomes vacant to register the property, 90 days to register a transferred vacant property. Registration is $100.00 per vacant real property.

It is the responsibility of the property or agent to maintain the lawn and make sure the structure is secure. Failure to register vacant properties can result in fines. Code Enforcement strives to help protect the health, safety and well-being of the citizens by preventing blight, protecting property values and avoiding the creation and maintenance of nuisance properties.

The City’s Code Enforcement Section offers three convenient ways to register:

· Online Registration - Visit http://aca.accela.com/atlanta_ga & create an Accela Citizen Access (ACA) account.

· Mailed Registration – Download forms at the Vacant Property website: www.atlantaga.gov/vacantproperty

· In Person Registration - Visit the Office of Code Enforcement, 818 Pollar Blvd, 3^rd Floor, Atlanta, GA 30315.
