A rock climbing shoe should fit "comfortably tight" throughout and
never
cause pain at any one particular point (especially in the toe box).
Shoes
fitted in this manner will stretch and produce a "personalized fit"
after
awhile. Boots that produce painful "pressure points" usually won't
"stretch
out" after the initial breaking in period. All models will stretch more
in
width, height and volume, than in length. Canvas lined models will
stretch
less than unlined ones. Some climbers prefer a painfully tight fit to
increase edging performance but this is not recommended and may
actually
decrease optimum shoe performance. The shoe should fit tightly enough
to
prevent excessive foot slippage inside the shoe, but loosely enough to
allow
the shoe to bend and feel during friction moves. As a general rule, the
eyelets of the rock shoe should parallel after lacing. If they are too
close
together, this indicates that the shoe size is too large (unless the
climber
has extremely narrow feet). If the eyelets are farther apart than
parallel,
then the shoe size may be too small or the climber may have a very wide
foot.Boreal utilizes the U.K. sizing scale, all Boreal rock shoes
should be
sized at least one full size below the climbers U.S. street shoe size
(U.S.
sizes are approximately one size larger than the corresponding U.K.
size,
e.g. Boreal size 8 = U.S. size 9). Fitting a Boreal rock shoe one size
below
U.S. street shoe size is considered loose, one and one half sizes
below is
snug, two sizes is tight, two and one half sizes or more is considered
masochistic. Please use the following size equivalency table for further
