for civil society organizations

The Small Grants Program is designed to assist countries around the world to strengthen democracy, human rights, civil society, and rule of law, and to combat extremism in their countries by making grants of up to $20,000 to local non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations. Proposals must support program activities that promote democratic practices, including civil society, freedom of information and independent media, transparency in government, NGO capacity building, rule of law and judicial reform, civic education, conflict resolution, human rights, ethnic, minority and women's rights.

2. THE YIDAN PRIZE ANNOUNCES THE START OF THE NOMINATION PROCESS FOR 2016-2017
On behalf of Yidan Prize Foundation, please be informed
that the Yidan Prize for Educational Research and Development has begun
accepting nominations for its inaugural award, to be given in 2017. Two
winners per year will receive HK$ 30 million (around US$3.9 million) each in
cash and project funding, making this the largest educational prize in the
world.
The Prize was created by Mr. Charles Chen Yidan, co-founder of Tencent, one of China’s most successful Internet companies. The Yidan Prize seeks to recognize an individual or small group whose work transforms education in an innovative way that can be replicated and repeated around the world to improve education quality and provide better access to education for all. Each nomination will be reviewed by a jury of highly respected experts in education according to a set of rigorous criteria in order to identify the very best individuals. Projects of nominated individuals should be sustainable, future oriented, transformative and innovative.
All nominees must be submitted by third party recommendation. The prize invites non-government organizations, comprising government bodies, professional associations and individual leaders to propose nominees. Self-nomination is allowed in exceptional cases. Nominees can be either individuals or working teams, consisting up to three persons who can be teachers, researchers, academics, policymakers, and advocates.
