Dear ETF,
Congratulations on finishing another year at SUNY New Paltz.
According to EPA calculations, the materials stream (all items that are in use in our society) is associated with approximately 42% of greenhouse gases emitted from our country.
As I understand it, this year there is no organized campus collection/donation effort so as a community member I am hoping  that you donate all uneeded items to local organizations.
Attached please find a list of organizations and their hours that my sister put together.
I believe most items left in the dorms will be disposed at the transfer station where all items dumped into trucks that haul discarded materials hundreds of miles to one NYS's two landfills-Seneca Meadows or High Acres, to be buried forever.
If you don't have time or need a vehicle to donate your items, you may reach out to me at 845 797 3263 as I have some volunteers with vehicles who are happy to divert useable items from the waste stream and landfills.
Please spread the word among the campus community that these resources are available.
Anything item saved from the landfill is one less thing that is needed to be produced new (and associated greenhouse gases natural resources/ energy/environmental impacts) and that many fewer greenhouse gases emitted transporting the items to the landfill and emissions from the landfill itself.
Also by donating you may be helping out someone who may be unable to afford that item otherwise.
And it's fun and feels good to help others and the planet!
Thank you for your commitment to a sustainable future.
Have a great summer!
Kindest regards,
Kimiko Link
