The SUNY New Paltz Environmental Task Force (ETF) was created in 2005 by faculty, students and staff members concerned about the serious environmental problems that we face in the world today. It has grown to be a campus-community organization that addresses sustainability issues both on and off campus and organizes educational, awareness-raising events.  Some issues we have focused on are local food in the campus dining halls and educating people about a New York State ban on hydro-fracking.

The ETF has become a hub of collaboration with The Students for Sustainable Agriculture, The Recycling Club, NYPIRG, The Sustainability Committee and other local environmental organizations bridging the gap between the campus and the community's environmental efforts. The ETF supports local farms that host class visits to educate students about sustainable agriculture.

In addition, the ETF has hosted a number of speakers and presented films on such topics as organic agriculture, green building design, global warming and alternative transportation. These programs are designed to raise awareness about environmental problems and to inform individuals about how they can alter their lifestyles in ecologically beneficial ways.
