Hello strong women,
I posted tonight a bit of an update on NOWSA 2011 on the facebook
group. For those not on there it contained the following information:
The dates: 11th - 15th of July.
Accommodation options: Sydney Central YHA - groups of 6 means that you
will pay less that $160 for the week's accommodation. We want everyone
to feel comfortable so if you are happy sharing but don't have quite
enough conference attendees, we will happily put you in touch with
other groups who can't quite book out a whole room. We are currently
investigating billeting and there are some on campus options that are
more expensive which we will subsidize part of if this kind of
accommodation is required. There are also options at Randwick (less
than 10 minute walk from our campus) if anybody is interested in these
options they will become available on the website or you can email me
for more details before the website is live. I understand that this is
a point of concern for a lot of you who are wanting to secure
bookings.
Website: This is where our main hiccup has come in. The code and the
content exist. I have purchased
www.nowsa.com.au for 2 years, this
will be handed over to next years NOWSA organisers (get thinking about
bidding!). We are waiting on design still and I am honestly hounding
this. If the issue is not resolved very promptly I have stated that
the NOWSA committee will make a substitute blog until this is ready.
We are passionate in creating something that provides a solid anchor
point for the group and allows easy communication. This will also
feature each collective so as soon as we are closer to liveness I will
be asking all women's officers / directors / conveners to write
something up about your collective, campaigns, contacts and upcoming
events to be featured :)
The registration fee will be $50.00 pp, on a whatever your collective
can give basis. We are holding / have held equity events in order to
cover any costs that cannot be paid by, i'm sure, some very tight
budgets!
The speakers list is very exciting! This will be released pre-NOWSA
conference. At this stage only the collective and Courtney have had a
peak at who will be sharing their wise words.
I hope this helps answer some of the questions that are floating
around. If you have further enquiries or wish to submit a workshop
idea please email on
k.l...@arc.unsw.edu.au. This email will be
printed and replied to after the NOWSA collective have met and
discussed a response.
There was something that we have been talking about in our NOWSA
collective meetings and would like to put to the NOWSA group. Last
year there was a little bit of an issue with how caucus times should
be spent by non-caucus attendees. A pro-caucus was suggested but not
received warmly by all. We would love to have your input into how
caucus times may be spent by those who are not a part of the caucus.
We have thought a reflection time might be a good option for the days
topic, however I do not want members of caucus to feel excluded from
this. What do you all think?
Warm regards,
Kimberley Lowe
UNSW Women's Officer.
