Nowruz Foundation

Salam Doostan,

Unfortunately, our 501c3 status for Nowruz Foundation has been suspended.  I had wrongly assumed that yearly tax statements for the foundation need to be filed only if there has been financial activity and fundraising. Since we did not have any financial activity or funds generated by the foundation, I had wrongly assumed that taxes do not need to be filed.  

At this time, I have decided to allow Nowruz Foundation to dissolve and not to pursue or file the required documentations to reinstate the 501c3.

I wanted to thank all of you for all your help. Although the foundation will not function as an official non-profit corporation in the future, the mission and goals of Nowruz Foundation are very dear to me and I plan to pursue them in the years to come.  We can continue to draft statements for the celebrations if everyone agrees since they can be of tremendous help in creating the cultural symbolisms and lessons for in civil disobedience and their potential application during  celebrations.  

Also, since everyone of you are dear friends to me, I plan to be in touch with all of you in the future.

I closed the mailbox for the foundation yesterday.  We have $57 dollars in our bank account and I plan on closing that account as well to prevent any unnecessary bank or recurring charges.  I you have any ideas on where I should send the remaining balance, please let me know.

I will maintain this google group for now, but I suggest we should change the name and make it more generic without a reference to a foundation.

Hi Amir jaan,

well, it is up to you but regarding the previous problems you faced due to having a similar name with other Nowruz Foundation, I totally agree to dissolve this one and establish another organization. As you mentioned, we can keep working on the public education with announcements and promoting your book, which is our utmost goal, regardless of having a registered organization or not. 

It's been a pleasure working with you, Partow joon and other dear friends and hope to keep it like this.

Had a suggestion: to make Nowruz Foundation a popular one, we ask Shahrzad to sing a song geared towards young people and the theme is based on non-violent struggle.
