Hello everyone....

Every year or so, I bring this topic back up because it keeps coming back to
haunt me and I have never really gotten a good idea what's the cause.

Some of my users are reporting that their computers are rebooting on them
seemingly on a random basis. I look into it and it appears that the patch
management system may be involved but, the users never seem to have an
accurate time or a proper description for me.

Well, yesterday one of my users did have her computer shut down and reboot
on her and her info was good enough for me to draw the conclusion that yes,
the ZenWorks Patch management system is the probable cause.

So here is the low down and this seems to be typical for all the users who
have reported this.

1. User is running Windows XP SP3 with also a complete set of patches.
2. User was connected to an SSL-VPN device that gave them access to our
network when they received the patches.
3. Server is version 6.4.2.1573 and the user agent is either 6.4.2.405 or
6.4.2.420.
4. The patch management system and its agents using non-routable IP
addresses so the traffic should go down the VPN tunnel to get to the
server.

I've been thinking that something is blocking communication from the
pddm.exe to the patch management server and the most obvious choice is the
SSL-VPN and ipSec VPN devices involved in this.

Does anyone know off the top of their heads what ports does the Patchlink
agent and server use to communicate??

Thanks.

Delon,

pddm works locally - the agent tells it to make a fuss and it does... I
have seen this on my own devices form time to time, but never been able
to reproduce it (never on a vm box for example, so I can't revert to a
snapshot). If we can find a reliable way to duplicate it, I can go to
bat...

Hey, Shaun...

You're full of all kinds of good news, aren't you??

I was afraid that was going to be the answer.

Oh, well....

I'll keep my eyes peeled for anything that looks like a consistant
pattern....

Thanks.
