What's the best way to allow non-admin users to remote control another
workstation without having to use C1? In the ZfD2 days there was a program
called "Quick Remote Actions" that did a good job of that but it doesn't
work with ZfD4. Is there another way of doing this in ZfD4?

Thanks,

Jim

Craig,
So in the word, non-admin user cannot remotely control other workstations
right? Non-admin user needs to user other third party to do this. I have
a similar questions like Jim's question. I have a non-admin user (a
temp), and I don't have to add a temp into an Admin group. However, a
temp needs to remotely control user's desktop, too. Just want to make
sure that there is no other way to fullfil this other than using third
party software or program.
Thanks, Craig

Being an Admin or Non-Admin does not really matter.

The Tool Novell provides for doing Remote Control is C1 and the previous
poster did not want certain people using that tool for one reason or
another.
There is a command-line tool called Desktop4.exe which is really not user
friendly and is not a solution in of itself for general use.
The software linked below creates a GUI front-end to Desktop4.exe which
allows for a full-featured stand-alone remote control utility interface.

The official preferred method for RCing workstations by both admins and
non-admins would be to use C1.
If you prefer a dedicated front-end for doing Remote Control, the software
linked below is very widely used.

Hi.

Trying to give some non-admin users the right to remote control workstations via the user object. I have followed the tids/documentation for
this when using ConsoleOne and that works just fine.

When trying to remote control a user object with desktop4.exe (dopps zenwsbrowser actually) there seems to be some rights missing. Making the
user into an admin solves the problem until the remote controlled user changes IP on his workstation it keeps on working even when removing
admin rights.

So the question is simply put:

What rights is needed on user AND workstation objects to remote control with desktop4.exe? Or if someone knows how I can check what attributes
has changed on a user after a remote control has been performed that would be sweet too.

I started a new thread before reading others, sorry. I have a regular
user (non-admin) that can launch C1 and I want them to be able to RC
workstations in all our 40 OUs.

What rights does this user need and where do I assign them? Does it
have to be on each workstaion or can it be higher in the tree?

Thanks.

higher in the tree, in c1 Tool / ZENworks Tools / Manage Remote Operators
