We had similar problems on older machines with only 512mb.
The problem was simply too many things kicking off at the same time right
after login.
SAV, Zen, Patchlink, etc.
Things to check:
1) Make sure you don't have too many force run apps (with lots of rules).
This takes processing power to churn thru. If you can pare these down, it
can help.
2) How often are you running an inventory? When is it scheduled to kick
off?
3) Try disabling zen from auto-starting. What happens when you wait til the
desktop loads and *then* kick off the NAL?
4) If loading the NAL later helps, you can add a switch to your nal load
line to delay its start.
5) Don't overlook the obvious: HD defrag'd?
6) Make sure your NIC's are properly set. We had new cisco switches put in,
which were set to 100/full (and auto on the workstation side). Workstations
wouldn't always handshake correctly, and this would cause huge issues.
Setting both sides to auto/auto fixed similar issues).
What happens if you log in to the workstation locally first (workstation
only) then login to novell, then kick off zen?
