Same issue with the zfdagent.msi in ZDM7SP1IR4_HP2!
I notice there are a slew of msiexec.exe running in the background, and if I
kill one of them (usually the smaller of the two run by SYSTEM) the install
completes.
Same story about killing the smaller system msiexec.exe when *uninstalling*.

Also, just tried to replicate this on my xpsp3/ie8/allupdated vmware
workstation 7 vm....it installed without issue as it should.....

Keith,

is that msiexec running /before/ you start the agent install?

No, this could be right after bootup, or anytime making sure that all
msiexec.exe are killed in taskmgr before starting the install. I can
reproduce the problem on install & uninstall on both types of units noted in
the initial post.

Keith,

if it still fails with the HP2 agent (and I suspect it will) then I
think my best advice is to raise a SR, since you will probably need to
work with Novell to see what's unique about those hardware platforms...

You are correct, it does indeed fail with HP2, as stated in my post on
11/23. I did raise a SR(10577431251), but so far it has yet to yield a
result. The onsite folks will run a fresh install off the xpprosp3vlk media
& apply the windows updates, but most of the machines I worked with on 11/23
were in that condition already, so I seriously doubt the results will
change.

Keith,

I doubt if it will change either (I just looked at the SR), but it's a
sensible first step, because it will mean that engineering can
eliminate anything that's specific to your environment.

It would appear that a fresh install of xpsp3 (no patches) + novell client +
zfdagent.msi worked AOK on the Compaq 6715b & the macbook pro. How/why this
worked perplexes me as any of them that did have additional software on them
had nothing different than any other machines on the network that
zfdagent.msi would install on without a hitch.

hah....now both go blank screen and unresponsive when trying to zen image
them....meh, no end to the troubles these are causing with zen...

(yeah, tried the fn+f4 cycle through monitors, a monitor on the external
port, its not power management, etc)

Keith,

:( so are you going to reopen the SR (I see it's closed)?

The zfdagent.msi problem is resolved, so I closed the ticket. I may open a
new one if after HP2/nov09 patches do not fix the imaging.
