Configuring Suse 10.1 to be able to find two displays

Hello:

I have a Dell 700 M laptop. I have successfully gotten the X11
displays to recognize my screen. When I use my laptop at home in
windows mode, I usually connect to a larger external monitor. I would
like to be able to support this functionality in Linux as well. That
is I would like X windows to recognize which monitor it is displaying
on and automatically switch configuration, without my having to edit
files each time.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
