AC97 records in mono only

Hi, I run SuSe 10 off an Asus A8n SLi deluxe board. I recently ripped out
the SB Audigy card and am currently relying on the on-board AC97 (Realtek?)
sound for playback and recording. YAST picks the card up and uses driver
snd-intel8x0.

Playback seems to work fine, but recording from Line-In only works as mono
(Left) recordings, no matter how I play around with the settings. This is
extremely frustrating as I am busy on an LP restoration project. In
Windows (Ughh!) the card works 100% recording & playback.

I would appreciate if somebody can help/point me towards the right solution.
