I added a netgear WAG311 to my suse10.1, it didn't work by it self
either. I installed ndiswrapper and just read the instructions
included in the package, as I always do (hint)
/usr/share/doc/packages/ndiswrapper/README.SUSE
The thing that you maybe missed was:
(5) Configure the wireless network adapter in YaST, Network Devices,
Network Card. Choose "Other", Device Type = Wireless, Configuration
Name = 0, Module Name = ndiswrapper. Leave the other fields to
their defaults. Configure the wireless settings.
But anyway, I found this card supported by madwifi-0.9.1-1.1 ,
so I installed that and ditched the Microsoft drivers, I will
not have any devil software in my machine.
Madwifi was not on the media (only the SLED10 media) ,
so I added http://madwifi.org/suse/ as install source.

probably better asked in the opensuse forums as this one is for Suse Linux
