Sometimes I go download programs and I see them list files with noarch,
x86_64, i586, etc. What are the differences? I believe that I read once
that x86_64 was the AMD chip? What are the others? Sometimes I even see
i386...

ix86 refers to the standard Intel 32bit processor series and emulations
of it such as AMD. x86_64 means any 64 bit processor, Intel or AMD. I
haven't seen it myself but I'd guess noarch means "no architecture", ie
it doesn't care.
