Broken symlinks

Hello,

I've a bit of an issue setting up an automatic iso image mounter.
Everything seemed to work fine for a while but now the images refuse to be
mounted and as part of the setup I used I am left with several broken
symbolic links.

The symlinks pointed to foldernames automatically created by the autofs system.
I've tried manually creating the directories they point to (guess this
won't work) & I've tried to rm -rf symlink_name but it positively will not
be removed.

Am I missing a simple trick here or am I pretty much stuck with my broken
links?
