We recently migrated from Queue-based printing with Services for Unix to
NDPS on Netware 6 with SP3. Also, we're using the HP NDPS Gateway 3.00b
for communicating with our printers. Since this migration, we've
encountered a rather difficult problem with truncated print jobs.
Originally, we resolved this by increasing our timeouts from 3 seconds to
50 seconds.

However, we're now encountering the same problem when printing large (over
100 page) batch reports from our Unix/VMS systems through lpr. The print
job runs correct for the first 60-80 pages and then dies. Unfortunately,
there doesn't appear to be any error messages or indicators as to the
cause.

We then printed a test file (275 pages) from a W2K machine through NDPS.
These consistently print as expected. However, in attempting to isolate
the cause of our problem, I configured the same W2K machine to print
through lpr. Now submitted jobs simply disappear (I don't even see them
appear in the job control panel of NWAdmin). The Unix and VMS machines
continue to experience the previous behavior.

Ideas, suggestions and fixes are greatly welcome!

The easiest way to work around this problem is to use the Novell SNMP
Gateway instead of the HP one.

Barry,

I assume that you're referring to the Novell NDPS gateway rather than the
Novell SNMP gateway, correct? If not, then I am a bit confused concerning
how SNMP fits into the picture...

Also, why would the gateway matter for something that appears to only
affect printing through the LPR interface? In any case, I will see if we
can try this on Monday.
