Environment: NW51, SP6+, eDir 8.7.1.1, HPgate 3.00a. Client: WinXP
sp1, client 4.9.0 sp1a

Issue: Set up HP5M as NDPS controlled access printer using HPgateway
*or* Novell gateway (have tried both, with same results). Printer
installs fine to a WinXP worlstation, but any attempt to print--even a
test page from the printer properties page-- results in WinXP
crashing. Win9X and Win2K workstations have no problems printing.
Have tried turning off local spooling, setting to print directly to
printer, to no avail. Interesting enough, XP workstations can print
with no problem if they print directly to the IP address of the
printer or via parallel cable. I have duplicated this problem with
several HP5 printers and WinXP workstations at 3 of our sites. Any
ideas on what the problem may be??

Did you try different drivers? Perhaps drivers from the WinXP-CD?

Make sure you are using the driver that shipped with XP.
If adding that driver to the RMS database doesn't work, go to the
printer properties in Windows, click the 'Advanced' tab and click the
[New Driver] button. Add the driver that ships with Windows (don't
click [Have Disk] in other words). If that driver works OK, then
download this utility:

http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tools/1492.html

Using this tool you can extract a working driver from your workstation,
then import that into the RMS database. It's made my life a lot
easier.
