I'm looking for a commandline tool that enables me to read and to set
the GID setting for a folder on a Novell NAS server running Netware
6.5.

Some more detail and background:

The graphical interfaces nwadmin and console1 both don't support this,
however nwadmin at least offers a readonly view in a window called
"the NFS extended directory information". There you find the GID.

We are running in netware mode, so controling all unix settings from
netware side. In independent mode, creating a directory in Novell
gives the correct GID setting, however further behaviour is not what
we are looking for. Switching to netware mode, the GID get's a default
setting of 1. Only after creating a directory from unix side, then the
GID for the new directory is set according to the UNIX GID mapping for
the owner, as set in Console1

If you don't see a Unix Profile tab in User properties in Console1, your
installation is missing some snapins.

??? So you do see the Unix Profile tab? What were you trying to say up
above then?

Very doubtful, but check to see if FLAG.EXE can do it. If not, I
suspect someone would need to write a 3rd party utiltity to do it.

I think Frans is referring to the file properties as shown in NWAdmin
from Windows and yes it does not allow to modify the file GID. This
used to be possible till NFS2.4 using the UNICON console utility.

However, in NetWare 6.5 this can be done using the NetStorage
interfaces. If netstorage is installed and when you access the files
thro' the browser and view its properties it has a new additional tab
called NFS Info in NetWare 6.5 which allows you to modify the GID. (For
info on installing/accessing NetStorage - please refer NW6.5 doc website)

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Madhan.

Yes I see a UNIX profile tab in Console1, and am using it to set UID
and GID mapping.

At this point, the problem is that besides of a UID/GID mapping for
user and group objects, there is also a owner and GID stored somewhere
in the filesystem.
You can view this in nwadmin, when going to the volume object and
traversing down the directory structure on that volume. Then, nwadmin
shows an "NFS extended directory information" window. However, this is
only a read-only window.

FLAG.EXE does not help me to set these new-release related attributes.

Ah, yes. Thanks for clarifying.

Oh boy... here we go with yet another management utility! I know, you
are just the messenger... :)

OK, I understand now. Looks like Madhan has some good info about using
NetStorage for this. I didn't think FLAG would help, but hey, stranger
things have happened!

This discussion did not deliver me a solution other than using
Netstorage.

However, to decrease admin activities, we try to use as much scripting
to set attributes and trustees as possible. So I'm realy looking for a
batch command to set the GID mapping.

Is there anyone who can program something like that for me?
