Hello,
I am trying to get this problem solved from Arcserve/CA support, but
they just send me:
Hi Scott
This is with reference to your issue with Arcserve tech support with issue
no# 13197362
Here is the document to configure SLP with Scoped DA
http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10059981.htm
Thanks
Terry
CA Tech Support

I know this particular document, and it doesn't address two separate
trees with SLP. The Remote Tree and single server (NW6.0 SP3) needs to
be backed up by two Arcserve 9.0 servers in the local tree. Can anyone
give me a clue how the two AS9 servers in one tree can backup a single
server in another tree?
Thanks,
Scott

The easiest way to allow Arcserve to reliably find backup a remote server
whether it's in the same tree or a different tree is to create an entry
for the remote server in the HOSTS file of the sever running Arcserve.
That way, you avoid any potential SLP issue or anything like that.

Marcel,
Yes, I agree that making an entry in the Hosts file for the remote
server would be best for IP communications, but does that hosts file
entry ensure that the Arcserve 9 Manager software will discover and
display the remote server in the remote tree? My trouble is getting
Arcserve to discover and display the servers to be backed up from a
remote tree not configured in the current Tree's SLP in the Arcserve
manager. CAI says that the Arcserve Manager is dependent upon Novell SLP
to display all servers to be backed up.
So CAI is sending me to Novell Support for SLP, and making SLP work
between multiple trees. Is there a TID for SLP configuration among
multiple trees?
Any comments or suggestions?

The SLP protocol is completely independent of Novell's eDirectory and
of the trees you use. It is true that Novell's DA implementation
stores it's data in eDirectory, but the data itself can belong to any
tree.
So there is nothing different regarding SLP whether you have one or
multiple trees. You just have one or more Directory Agents and you
point your servers to those directory agents. It's completely
irrelevant whether your servers and directory agents belong to the same
tree or to different trees. There are no special design considerations
for multiple trees.
