I have a problem after upgrading to NW6.5, Legato was extremely slow to
backup. I then added sp1 and it speed up expecially the first backup
and seems to be ok on some of my servers. However I have about 4
servers that are still extremely slow and take a day to do a backup
(they should be finished in a few hours).
I have noticed the legato user holding open files after the backup has
completed, and if you try and reset the server then rcmdsrv will cause
an abend because it will not unload all its modules.
I have also noticed that the server is running out of cache buffers
which it never used to do.

Has anyone else seen this? Is there a fix?

NW6.5 sp1
Legato Networker 4.21

Thanks
Mark

I am having the exact same problem now tht I have upgraded to SP1 on nw65.
I have been trying to find a newer legato client but have been unable to.

I have the same problem, and opened a ticket with Novell & legato both. The
problem is the legato client 4.21 and it's interoperability with tsafs.nlm.
It works (however probably not recommended by novell) to back-date the tsafs
to tsa600. I have been told by legato that they are not working on a new
client and they do not officially support 6.5.

From Novell core dump analysis:

Dump shows that rcmdsrv.nlm was in the process of unloading. The server
abended with :
Break caused by Abend: NLM unloaded without deleting all its processes.
Error code: None

One of the Rtag structures was still in use with a 1 in the rtcount field
that belonged to rcmdsrv.nlm This is the responsibility of the rcmdsrv.nlm
to clean this up. Therefore it looks like rcmdsrv's bug. They need to modify
their code so that these structures are cleaned up properly.

"NLM unloaded without deleting all its processes" - are you backing up
compressed NSS files?

No, we are not. I disabled compression on all my volumes because my
end-users tend to fill the volumes up to the brim.

By the way, TSA600 worked for only a few days. Use at your own risk.

I thought it was not possible to disable compression on NSS volumes once it
is enabled?
