I have tried running telnet on our server and it looks as if it loads then
says telnet.nlm is already loaded, cannot be loaded more than once.
On flicking through the screens there doesnt seem to be a session of telnet
running.
Could someone please help me out here

This is for incoming, not outgoing telnet connectivity.
You will not see such a screen.
