My users are getting issued a license when authenticating to another server
on the same NDS tree. Is this normal? What happens is they login to NDS
and a connection is established on a particular server, then they map a
drive to another server, an authentication connection is made, but another
license is granted from the second server - so they are using 2 licenses for
a single login. Is this a defect I can somehow patch or workaround?

No, this is NW5.x working as designed. NW6.x, on the other hand, uses only
one license per user no matter how many servers are attached to.
