Sometimes when I look at the server Powerchute data display via a
client machine, it shows the graphical display but with no data - ie,
there is no vertical bar displaying voltage or load. It is not in
communication with the UPS. If I re-boot and try again, as likely as
not, it is working correctly and the graph appears with the correct
Voltage and Load displays as expected.
I also think the 'orderly' shutdown is not correctly performed when
the communication is seemingly down but have not yet checked that for
certain.
Has anyone had that experience and can anyone suggest a cure. Would
the use of COM2 have any advantages? It is a PS/2 mouse, so I wouldn't
have thought so, but I am open to suggestions.
TIA
Tony.
What software are you using? The old PWRCHUTE.NLM or the newer Java based
software?
If you have PWRCHUTE.NLM loaded, you should have a screen on the server
indicating the status of the software including possible communication
errors with the UPS.

It is the PWRCHUTE.NLM but I was viewing it via a client.

Ok.
You should be aware that the client only communicates with PWRCHUTE.NLM
via IPX. The client will only correctly communicate with PWRCHUTE if
the workstation has an IPX connection to the server. In case the
workstation has an IP connection, the Powerchute client will get
confused and may not connect to the server.

Yes, I am connected by IPX and the client does open the usual Pwrchute
graphical display, but, the active black vertical broad bars, showing
the values, are SOMETIMES missing as though the Pwrchute on the server
is not getting any information from the serial connection to the UPS.
A re-boot of the server (not practical when in service) will normally
clear this. It is unpredictable and disconcerting.

When this happens, did you ever check the PWRCHUTE logging screen on
the server?
