The 3rd SCSI hard drive on our HP NetServer E800 (with NetWare 5.1 Small
Business) died and HP's SYMBIOS seems to be sending errors to NetWare
that appear as SYMH1NIW-INT errors - even though we're not mounting the
volume. Periodically, these errors cause the server to crash.

Yes, we could disconnect the hard drive, but between the server's design
(the cover can be removed only from the rear) and its physical location,
we would have to shut down and move a lot of equipment. So, while we
wait for some parts and time to figure out what's wrong (it's possible
that the crashed hard drive is just the result of another intermittent
hardware problem), we wonder if there is any way to turn off the
SYMH1NIW-INT errors. [The data on the drive is historical and not
time-critical.]

Neither the NetServer's SYMBIOS nor the Adaptec software see the 3rd
drive, so we're baffled as to why its non-functinoning state is
bothering NetWare. (When a 3rd drive failed in a NetServer 4/66 server
running NW 4.1 some years back, the server continued to run like a dream.)

Ddoubled,

Hmmm... I thought I answered this message.
Well, anyway, try using LSIHINW.HAN instead of SYMHINW.HAM. You can find
the latest LSIHINW.HAM here:
