Previous posts and responses said I could pull one drive at a time and let
it rebuild the array then use cpqonlin to add a logical drive then allocate
space in netware.
The manual for the 2DH controllers says DO NOT pull drive from hot swap bay
if any of the lights on the hard drives are lit other than the failed drive
light. On my server (after shutting down to dos) the two hard drive lights
ar on solid for all of the drives.
Talking with a support person on the phone he told me I need to do the
following:
Shut down the server.
Pull one of the 9.1 drives and restart server.
When asked fail the missing drive and then insert new drive and let it
rebuild.
Repeat this for each drive.
At end follow same process to allocate additional space.
My understanding of the previous posts and replies did not have me failing
the drive or restarting the server at each drive.
Did I misunderstand those posts?
I know a couple of people did this same procedure and said there was no
problem with what they did but I do not remember anything from those posts
about failing the existing drives and restarting the server.
Thanks,
Dan
You can do the process "live", just pulling the drive you want to update and
replacing it. The process the tech gave you will accomplish the same result,
just adds extra steps and reboots. The raid controller supports hot plugging a
failed drive, and by pulling a good drive, you're basically just failing and
removing it in one step.

Yep. As long as no other drive has the failed light on you'll be fine.

Either will work. I've done it with NetWare running. But as always, make sure
you have good backups.

You can change it there. But as long as the server is not under a heavy load,
I've never really seen any great difference in rebuild time by changing it.
