Posting this again since I got an automated reply the first time in the
hopes that someone has some ideas. I've been working with CA through email
for support and it's obvious they are grasping at straws at this point. Just
hope that someone may have some insights. Thanks very much.

We just upgraded to version 9 of Arcserve which runs on an NT 4 SP6 Box and
among other things backs up 2 NW 5 Servers. All of our Netware backups are
running fine except for a job that just backs up NDS from 2 servers. We
receive the following error in the Arcserve Log...

E8511 Failed to connect with Client Agent (Address XXXXXXXX-000000000001
(PCHELPS))

NOTE: I masked out the first half of the address but it does appear
correctly in the error (just standard paranoia, not sure if it's necessary)

All of our other Netware backup jobs connect to the Netware Agents properly
and backup without a problem, we are using IPX and not IP although sometime
this year we'll be making the move to IP. The backup job itself is defined
to use the Netware Agents and configured correctly for IPX just as our other
Netware backup jobs are.

I've already made sure that Use SMS logic is turned on in the Netware Client
agent.

Also I've reconfigured SMDR.

Specs on the Netware Servers as follows...

Server Version 5.00.10
Novell eDirectory Version 8.62 SMP
NDS Version 10350.12

I actually was on the phone with CA support (cough..ack) this morning as we
also had an issue with a SQL 6.5 backup due to the upgrade. Since these were
two seperate issues in CA's minds (as opposed to one problem caused by the
somewhat forced upgrade) they wanted to charge me for 2 support incidents. I
attempted to fight them on this but eventually lost the battle and resolved
the SQL problem first. They did give me some hints for free (wooohooo) which
was to confirm that SMS logic was turned on and to reconfigure SMS. Still no
luck.

Any ideas? Thanks so much in advance.

Geoff

TaskMaster (http://www.avanti-tech.com) can do this.
